Review: March 2016 Glossybox UK

Hello all,
Hope you made it through Monday in one piece :) Today's post is all about the March Glossybox UK which I received on Friday. Their theme this month was "Get Glowing" i.e. focusing on giving our skin that elusive glow. I'm afraid though that this review won't be as "glowing" as it could be. The subscription box service can be a bit hit or miss sometimes, and this month's unboxing for me was a bit more of a "miss"than a "hit".

The idea behind these boxes appeals to me usually as I love the idea of a monthly "surprise" and trying out some undiscovered beauty products. I have often gone onto to buy the full-size versions of the products in the boxes which is either a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it! However, most of the time, by the time the boxes hit Ireland, I have already snooped around online to see what others have received and as such it's not such a surprise for me anymore. Curiousity killed the cat and all that..Anyways, onto the contents of the box this month...

The first item was a mini tube of Olay Regenerist Skin Tone Perfecting Cream. This cream is said to hydrate, smooth and exfoliate the skin to leave you with a healthy, glowing complexion. If it works, I'm all over it! It does have a nice fragrance and texture so I will be giving it a try in place of my morning moisturiser. However, the sample is teeny tiny so I don't know if it will get much of a trial or not before it runs out..

The second item was another skincare item- Hey Honey Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum. This is also a travel-sized tube of a serum containing honey and propolis. I have never heard of this ingredient but a quick Google search told me that propolis is also known as "bee glue" and is the substance that bees use to seal their hives.  Glossybox say that both honey and propolis are two of nature's most powerful antibacterial and antiseptic ingredients and that this serum will replenish and protect the skin. Mmm..I am dubious about this one as both ingredients sound sticky to me. I am quite loyal to my current serum but I will put this in my "stash" drawer and might try it out in future.

Next was the first make-up item - the Collection Speedy Highlighter. This is like a chunky crayon, that you draw on wherever you want to highlight on your face. It is rather sparkly so it would probably be better suited to a night-out look than a daytime office look. Glossybox have sent us a lot of highlighters in recent boxes so while this is nice in itself, I am experiencing a bit of highlighter overload at present. I might keep it to give to a friend instead.

Fourth up, we received a travel size tube of both the -417 Catharsis Vitamin Mineral Shampoo and Conditioner. It is claimed to combine dead sea minerals, vitamins and esssential oils to leave your hair "super gleaming, hydrated and lustrous". I have never heard of this brand before and I am quite particular in the hair products that I use as I have extremely fine hair. I will put these aside though for use if going away as they are handy travel sized tubes and I hate lugging big bottles away for holidays.

The last product was a rose gold- coloured large angled face brush by the brand Luxie. I like an angled brush for highlighting and contouring and I can never have enough brushes so out of this box, this product is the most likely to be used. The bristles are lovely and soft, and the pink handle feels quite sturdy. Plus I'm a total magpie and I'm partial to a bit of rose gold..

Overall, I am slightly underwhelmed by the box this month. The highlights for me are the brush and the Olay cream and these are the ones I knew that I would try straight away when I opened the box. If I was new to these boxes, I would be impressed with the highlighter but as I said I have accumulated quite a few in recent months from these boxes.

Recently I signed up for another subscription box which has just started shipping to Ireland and I'm eagerly awaiting my first box which should arrive this week. I'm interested to see how this will compare to Glossybox..

Have you tried Glossybox yet or any other type of subscription boxes out there? If so I'd love to hear your thoughts :)

Bye for now,
C xx
