How to choose eyeshadow to suit your eye colour

If, like me, you were a child of the eighties, you will remember the lilac and blue eyeshadows which everyone went mad for - regardless of the fact that they did nothing for their eyes! Thankfully this trend is well behind us now and hopefully will stay back there! Choosing the right eyeshadow to compliment your eye colour can make all the difference. The right shade will make your eyes pop no matter how little sleep you've had and is better than any Instagram filter at making your eyes stand out!

So where do you start?

Blue eyes:
Coral, copper, bronze and warm brown shades really compliment blue eyes. If you don't like too much colour, champagne and light gold shades will also work really well. Think of the colour wheel - opposite colours tend to compliment each other and blue and yellow/orange shades are opposites on the wheel!  I have blue eyes myself and these are some of my favourite shades - the lighter shades in the Stila Eyes are the Window Soul Palette, Rimmel's Scandaleyes Eyeshadow paint in Peachy Apricot and Bellapierre Cosmetics loose eyeshadow in Coral Reef.

Grey eyes:
Grey eyes are the most unique shade and will look really pretty when you compliment the  grey silvery flecks in your eyes with silver and smoky grey shades. Along with brown eyed ladies, grey eyes are the best ones you pull off a smoky eye - you lucky girls!

Some examples below are grey shades in this MUA Palette in Undressed and this Fuschia Eye Dust in Galaxy to add a bit of sparkle. You could also use the champagne shade and the grey mixed together to make a softer silver shade.

Green eyes:
Going with the colour wheel again, make a statement with violets and purples and your eyes will really pop. How gorgeous is this violet shade from NYX called "Punk Heart"? For a more subtle daytime  look, a shimmery brown will also work really well.

Hazel eyes:
Purple tones again will suit you if you have hazel eyes, but a more subtle option again would be dusky, rosy metallic shades - think of the Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette or the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and the gorgeous rosy shades in both of those. The below is the Maybelline palette.

Brown eyes:
If you have brown eyes you are one of the lucky ones in that almost anything goes! (And I'm well jealous!!) Some of the shades that look really pretty though on brown eyes are gold, bronze and purples again. You could definitely carry off the more vibrant colours in this Sleek Ultra Matte palette too!

Hopefully the above tips have been of some help to you if you are looking to purchase some new eyeshadows :) Let me know in the comments what your own go-to shades are!

Bye for now,
C xx
