Birchbox UK July 2016 Review

Birchbox UK July 2016 Review

It's that time of the month again for my beauty box reviews and the first one up is Birchbox. As you may know, the Birchboxes follow a particular theme each month and are often collaborations with celebrities, beauty experts etc. This month's theme is "Never Ending Summer" and it is a collaboration with Millie Mackintosh. I've never watched Made in Chelsea but to be honest I knew she was in the show and I didn't know much else about her! It turns out though that she is a trained makeup artist, has two clothing ranges of her own and is now working on her third, and also works as a model. She also has her own range of eyelashes it seems! Anyhow, let's get onto the contents of the box shall we..

LOC Ultra Gloss Lip Pencil in Bohemian Rose.

LOC

This is a brand that features quite often in Birchbox I believe and this is an exclusive collaboration with Millie in that she chose the shade and the name of it. It's a shiny lip pencil in a rosy pink shade that will probably suit a lot of skintones. This is meant to be full size at 2.5g - a little on the small side in my opinion for a full size but I'll give it a go and see how it looks. It does feel nice and moisturising and has a nice glossy finish..

John Frieda Luxurious Volume In-Shower Treatment.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume In Shower Treatment

A couple of weeks ago, subscribers received an email asking them to choose which of two John Frieda Products they would like to see in future boxes. The options were an Anti-Frizz Primer or this volume treatment. I have notoriously fine hair and I'm always on the hunt for something to plump it up, so I went for this one. To use this, the instructions say to shampoo and condition hair as normal then apply this for 3-5 minutes afterwards then rinse out. This is definitely going to be a weekend treatment because who has all of this time on a weekday morning to spend on hair? Not me anyway.
I am very curious and looking forward to trying it out though.

Nails Inc nail polish in the shade Blenheim Terrace.

Nails Inc Nail Polish Blenheim Terrace

I think this is the first time I've ever received a nail polish in a beauty box as I don't think they used tu be allowed ship these to Ireland based on postal regulations. The Nails Inc polishes are well known and good quality but the shade is not really my colour. It's a navy blue shade and I might try it out in Autumn/Winter but for now I'll put it in the nail polish stash. Or I may donate it to a friend, we shall see. The bottle is a mini 4ml size.

Caudalie Anti-Wrinkle Protect Fluid - for Normal to Combination skin.

Caudalie Anti Wrinkle Protect Fluid SPF20

This is a moisturiser which is said to be a "shield" for the face. It protects from UV rays, fights free radicals and hydrates the skin. It contains Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants so I'm expecting good things :)  I'm already a fan of the Caudalie brand - their hand creams and lip balm in particular - but I've yet to try a moisturiser from them so I'm looking forward to testing this one out. It smells gorgeous too - a light, orangey-floral shade.

Skin Republic Collagen Infusion Face Mask.

Collagen Infusion Face Mask Sheet Skin Republic

This is a sheet mask containing Collagen, Elastin and Vitamin E to revitalise the skin's elasticity, tone and firmness. If a product says anti-ageing, these days I'm all over it. Having kids does that to you lol causing the grey hairs peeking out between salon visits and the permanent frown line between my eyebrows. Sheet masks are great as they allow you to try out various different masks without having to invest in a big tub or tube. If you find one you like they are usually available individually so that you can give yourself a mini treat every now and again.

I might actually do a blog post on my favourite sheet masks - let me know if this is something you would like to read? I know it's Saturday  night but we don't get out much these days - so I may treat myself to a bath and a go of this mask tonight. I'll let you know on Instagram how I get on!

Overall, I'm quite impressed with Birchbox this month. The only thing that isn't up my street is the nail polish but it is a good quality brand and if this is your sort of shade you will like it. I guess the shade selection in each box is all down to pot luck!

Are you signed up to Birchbox and if so what did you think of this month's box? Let us know in the comments!
