July 2016 Favourites

July 2016 Favourites

Hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend! I’m conscious that I didn’t do a June favourites round up but to be honest there weren’t enough products to tell you about then! I thought it would be more useful last month to do a roundup of disappointing products instead and carry over a couple of faves to this month. (If you haven’t checked out my disappointing products post yet you will find it here.)

This month is a mix of makeup and skincare items and is a collection not only of items that I bought recently but also things that I had in my “stash” but never got around to trying.

Freedom Makeup Brow Pomade.

Freedom Makeup London Brow Pomade

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will know that this product and the Freedom brand itself are a recent discovery of mine. This pomade is said to be very similar to the bestselling Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pomade. I can’t comment on this similarity but from my perspective, this is definitely the best highstreet/drugstore brow product I have tried! The texture is a cross between a powder and a gel and is super easy to apply with a small angled brow brush. What I do is comb through the brows first with a spoolie, then apply this product in light, feathery strokes. If you are using a product like this, start by drawing a thin line along the bottom of your brows to give a clean line then use light strokes to fill in the rest of your brows. A little ivory eyeshadow or highlighter under the brow bone to finish and your done!
This stays put all day for me but you could give it extra staying power by applying a clear brow gel over it if necessary. It is available in 11 shades and costs €7.50 from selected pharmacies or online from the Freedom Makeup website. My one is in the shade Ash Brown.

Makeup Revolution Newtrals vs Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette.

Makeup Revolution New-Trals Vs Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette

Again, if you follow me on social media you will see how keen I was to get my hands on this as an affordable palette with similar shades to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. I especially love the red and rust-toned shades and these will suit most eye colours but are especially good to complement blue eyes. It was out of stock for a while on the Makeup Revolution and Superdrug websites but I kept checking every now and then and when it arrived back in stock I was all over it! It is such good value and has a good mix of matte and shimmer shades with some good more neutral browns as well as the stronger shades. They are very pigmented and long lasting. It is very reasonably priced at £6.99 from the Makeup Revolution website. You can also find this
brand at Superdrug and selected pharmacies.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple One Step Facial Cleanser.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple One Step Cleanser

This is fast becoming one of my favourite cleansers. I received this in a Glossybox a few months ago and due to having some other cleansing products on the go, I'm only getting around to testing this out now. It is a 3 in 1 cleanser that removes makeup, cleanses and tones in one go. It has a lovely gentle fragrance, not overpowering at all. Even though it's tough enough to clean away everything, it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry and tight like some rinse-off cleansers do. I will definitely be purchasing a full sized version of this soon. Boots sell a 90ml version of this on their website for €11. That's quite a small bottle but a little of this product goes a long way!

Calvin Klein Beauty Luminous Skin Body lotion.

Calvin Klein Beauty Luminous Skin Lotion

I wore the perfume of this range for our wedding day and it is still one of my favourite scents ever. I’m terrible at describing perfume but it is a gorgeous modern floral fragrance. Not that I can tell what it is, but apparently it has top notes of citrus and orange blossom, heart notes of jasmine and lily and base notes of cedarwood and ambrette seeds. Apparently this perfume is aimed at the more mature woman but I think it's quite a modern scent and not what I would usually class as a more
"mature" perfume. This lotion feels so luxurious on the skin and has a slight shimmer to it as well. Layering a body lotion with the matching perfume really helps the perfume last longer through the day too! Usually around big gift-giving times of the year - Valentines Day, Mother's Day and of course Christmas - fragrance brands will bring out gift sets of their perfumes including smaller bottles of their shower creme or body lotions - so keep an eye out for these and particularly after the gift-giving time has passed as they are often reduced in price by then!

Rimmel Exaggerate Lipliners in Eastend Snob and Addiction.

Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liners Eastend Snob and Addiction

Lipliners aren't really "my thing". I don't collect them like I do other makeup, and I don't have a liner to match every shade of lippie. But these two from Rimmel are great to pair with lots of different nude pink or brown lipsticks. Eastend Snob is a pinky nude which I usually pair with Mac's Creme Cup or Rimmel's Airy Fairy for instance. Addiction is more brown toned and works well with beigey nudes or light brown shades, such as Mac's Honey Love, Maybelline's Beige for Good or Makeup Revolution's Chauffeur.

They are retractable liners which means no time spent sharpening either - another bonus. There is one small downside in that they are quite soft in texture so you have to be gentle and not drag it around the lips like you would a standard pencil liner otherwise the nib crumbles. They are also very reasonably priced at €5.49 from Boots.

So that's all the products that are on top of my list this month. Have you tried any of these? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! :)

Bye for now,
