August 2016 Favourites

August 2016 Favourites

Autumn is possibly my favourite season – the crispness in the air that starts to creep in, the cosy evenings, and all the autumnal makeup colours and snuggly clothes that start to appear in the shops. Thankfully the weather is still in summery mode which hopefully will last another while. It’s also the perfect time to share my August Favourites now that August is almost over! This month I have a bit of a mixture of beauty, skincare and "lifestyle" items. First up are a couple of makeup items – because it wouldn’t be me if there weren’t some makeup items in a Favourites’ post!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cairo.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Cairo

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Cairo

I’ve heard great things about these Lip Creams from Nyx but only very recently picked one up to try out. If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know I’m a big nude lip fan and I’m slowly building my matte lipstick collection. "Cairo" is a gorgeous pale cool nude. These are soft on the lips, not at all drying as some matte liquid lipsticks can be – and although I picked up probably one of the palest nude shades in the range, there are a ton of colours available with a shade to suit all tastes. I did need to reapply after lunch  but they can withstand several cups of coffee so they are pretty long lasting. At under €8 they are reasonably priced too. I would definitely pick up some more colours in the range in future.

Physicians Formula Nude Wear Blush.

Physicians Formula Nude Wear Blusher

I’m a big fan of the Physicians Formula brand as a whole and this blusher is no exception. Not only is this some of the prettiest, most “Instagrammable” packaging I’ve ever seen, the colours themselves are so subtle yet pigmented at the same time and perfect for paler skin tones. You can either use one colour individually or swirl a large brush over the four colours together but either way the result is a pretty, subtle pink glow to the cheeks.

There is a little brush and a mirror included too underneath. Pharmacies often have special offers on the Physicians Formula range so keep an eye out for deals. The full price of this is around €15.00 but I picked it up when my local McCabes Pharmacy had a 33% off offer on the range. At the moment however it is now part of a clearance offer and is half price along with some other items in the range in the very same pharmacy!

Image Skincare Iluma Intense Brightening Exfoliating Powder.

Image Skincare Iluma Intense Brightening Exfoliating Powder

I’ve only gotten around to using this in the last few weeks even though it was in my goodie bag from Blogger Conf earlier this year! I haven’t tried anything from this range before but I have to say that now I would definitely be keen to try more. This is a luxurious cleansing and polishing powder that you mix into a lather in your hands with a tiny bit of water and then massage onto the face. I’ve been using this in the mornings to cleanse my face and wake me up a bit and it leaves the skin super soft and refreshed and gives it a bit of a glow. It contains natural botanicals, enzymes and antioxidants to promote skin radiance. You can mix this in with another cleanser for extra polishing benefits too. Only a little of the product is needed at a time so even though its RRP is a rather spendy €39.50 it should last for absolutely ages. This is definitely going to be a permanent feature in my morning skincare routine from now on!

100 Days Happiness Planner.

Happiness Planner 100 Days Lavender

If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen that I’m a bit of a stationery and planner nut. This one however is a little different to my usual planners in that it is designed to help you focus on positive thinking, mindfulness and what makes you happy. We all have days (or weeks) where we get stressed out and find it hard to see the positives and this really does help to focus even on the little things that can help create a more positive outlook. There are daily pages to fill in your goals for the day, to do lists, daily exercise and meal plans. There is also a place to jot down what you were grateful for that day and what you are looking forward to about the following day. Along with the daily pages to be filled in, it includes several question pages and guides to help increase positivity. There will be a full review of this up on the blog in the next few weeks so watch out for that if you would like to hear more about it. It may seem a bit “out there” to some of you, but I find it really useful and it helps me to focus my mind on what needs to be done and what actually makes me happy!

Penneys Memory Foam Slippers.

Primark Grey and White Memory Foam Slippers

This might seem like a funny one to add into a monthly favourites and even though the weather hasn’t quite taken an Autumnal turn yet, now is the time to get a new pair of cosy slippers for the season ahead as they tend to sell out pretty fast. These ones have memory foam inside as well as a faux fur lining so they are super cosy. They remind me of the pricier Emu or Ugg ones and at a fraction of the price at €5 from Penneys/Primark. They come in this soft grey, a tan colour and also in navy. I’m tempted to pick up a second pair to see me through the winter!

So that’s everything that I’ve been raving about for August. Have you picked up any of these? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them too!

Bye for now,
