Cailyn Dissolv'It Makeup Melt Cleansing Balm Review

Cailyn Dissolv'It Makeup Melt cleansing Balm Review

I've been using hot cloth cleansers to remove my makeup for a long time now, and I was curious to try a different type of texture as those cleansers are generally more of a thick creamy consistency. This cleansing balm from Cailyn was on my shopping list for the Irish Beauty Show as I've been wanting to try it out for some time. I've been using it for the few weeks since the Show so I thought that today I would tell you what I think of it..

Cailyn Dissolv'It Makeup Melt cleansing Balm Review

First up, what is it? The Dissolv'It Makeup Melt Cleansing Balm is a balm that claims to dissolve and remove makeup - even waterproof makeup, foundation and sunscreen. It also claims to be gentle and mild and non-drying or irritating on the skin with ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Calendula Flower extract to hydrate the skin. It also contains an anti-oxidant called Acerola which is a natural source of Vitamin C to help brighten the complexion, and Papaya enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells and improve skin texture.

The balm comes in a pretty standard-size 50g jar- the size of a lot of average moisturiser jars - with simple silver and white packaging. The instructions are written on the box but not the jar itself. It comes with a tiny spatula to help you hygienically remove some product and then a plastic cover to keep the product fresh too when not in use. The full price of this is €25 from Cailyn Ireland website and selected pharmacies too such as Inish Pharmacy and Sam McCauleys. I however bought this for €20 at the Beauty Show as they had a 20% reduction on all of their products on the day.

As I mentioned above, this is a new type of product to me but I was pleasantly surprised by the texture. In the jar, it is a pale pink balmy texture - that reminds me of a lip balm actually - but when it makes contact with your skin reacts to your body temperature and transforms into an oil to dissolve your makeup.

How to use:

Step 1: Using the spatula, take a quarter-sized amount of the product out and apply to the face.

Step 2: Massage into the face in a circular motion allowing the balm to transform into an oil and dissolve makeup.

Step 3: For the eye area, gently massage over the lids and lashes to remove makeup, making sure not to drag or pull the delicate skin there. This step is not in Cailyn's instructions but I added this myself as they say it can be used on the eye area but don't tell you that you have to work very gently with it!

Step 4: Rinse well with warm water or use a foam cleanser. I have been using a wet flannel to remove the product and then splashing my skin with water afterwards to make sure all traces are removed.

So what is my verdict?

I'm not a skin care expert and I don't claim to be, and I'm very conscious at all times that not all skincare will suit all skin types and every individual. However, I was very impressed with how gentle this was and how it removes the need for an extra eye makeup remover in your cleansing routine. I would have very sensitive eyes and I have to be careful of the makeup remover I use there, but I have had no issues with this balm. I also have skin that is prone to sensitivity and redness - for instance, some exfoliating toners burn the hell out of my skin - and this didn't aggravate my skin at all. My skin felt fresh and clean as well as smoothed afterwards. When using toner afterwards, there was no makeup left on the cotton wool afterwards, which sometimes happens to me - especially when you use a long wearing foundation like Double Wear.

If you like this type of cleansing balm then I would say give this is definitely worth a try. Would you consider purchasing it? Or have you already and what did you think?I know that many other brands do their own versions of this too - so if there any more that you think I should try out let me know!
